Multiple Sclerosis Propane Delivery Truck
Multiple Sclerosis Bobtail Honors Hot Springs Employee
Ferrellgas has joined the fight against multiple sclerosis (MS) by rolling out “Big Steve,” an orange and white "bobtail" propane delivery truck. We created the specially designed bobtail to honor “Big Steve” Rogers, a longtime Ferrellgas Employee from Hot Springs, Arkansas, who retired due to the effects of MS in 2009.
To honor Rogers and support research into the causes and possible cure for MS, Ferrellgas will donate 1 cent to the MS Society for every gallon of propane pumped through the truck over the next year.
“Big Steve,” was dedicated to Rogers on September 10, 2009, during a special celebration hosted by Ferrellgas’ Hot Springs Service Center. Ferrellgas and MS Society representatives were on-hand to celebrate Rogers’ achievements and unveil the new truck to him for the very first time.
In addition to the launch party, the MS bobtail served as the “pace car” for the 2009 MS-150 bike ride in Little Rock, Arkansas. A team of 10 Ferrellgas riders accompanied both Big Steves as they led the riders out from the starting line.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling, disease that attacks the central nervous system. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. Today, new treatments and advances in research are giving new hope to people affected by the disease.
According to the National MS Society, there are approximately 400,000 people with MS in the country today, with 200 more people diagnosed every week. Ferrellgas is proud and humbled to be able to contribute to this important cause.
The MS bobtail is the newest of several specialty bobtails launched by Ferrellgas throughout the country to help support various causes, including breast cancer research and the USO.
